Bautista has been farming in Sunnyside in the Yakima valley since 2002. He farms 24 acres of land has a 35-acre orchard nearby. Jose’s day typically begins at 4:00am in the morning and ends around 11pm at night. Though his days are long, Jose wouldn’t have it any other way. He loves to farm and share his bounty of fruits and vegetables with everyone.
The Bautista Farms crew tends to the land by hand and grows everything without using pesticides. In 2002, he began growing asparagus, sweet Walla Walla onions, and lettuce. Today, he dedicates ten acres solely to asparagus and brings a slew of produce and sweet fruits to the Snohomish Farmers Market every Thursday. You’ll find acorn squash, summer squash, garlic, corn, carrots, green beans, cucumbers, potatoes, peppers, zucchini, eggplant, golden beets,
watermelon, radishes, and more.
Bautista Farms also grows a wide variety of tomatoes, including beefsteak, Brandywine, Carolina Gold, heirloom, Roma, yellow cherry, Early Girl, Pink, and yellow varieties. From the orchard, apricots, Asian pears, Bartlett pears, nectarines, peaches, Honeycrisp, Fuji, Gala, and Pink Lady apples. Just about anything to complete the perfect meal.
They recommends their fresh apples, which have been making their way to market each week. “They’re great any time of day and a mix of them makes an amazing applesauce” he says.
