“Something old, something new, something borrowed, then the blues.”
Uncle Phil defies narrow categorization. Here in addition to their varied selection of original music it seems as if you can see the Beatles following Fats Waller who’s chasing Gershwin on the way to Woodstock. Gritty Delta blues gets shaken together with Appalachian fiddle tunes, Kentucky blue grass, a jigger of St. Louis ragtime, and an added twist of Memphis rockabilly. Being very comfortable playing “Cover”, or Original and Public Domain materials they draw from a vast pallet of musical styles and influences spanning more than a century of popular music. The duo offers few clues as to what they’ll mix into their next bottle of musical moonshine, only the guarantee that it will be strong, smooth, intoxicating, and likely to lead to partying.
The new Uncle Phil began as the dream of lifelong professional musician and teacher Phil Hansen to perform in wide variety of styles of musical styles with no restrictions. He has been performing as a solo and in various groups since 1973. His plans as a solo took more direction when he was joined by Lucy Potyokim to play bass. Together they began to perform as Uncle Phil in 2011. The last few years have been filled with hundreds of shows in restaurants, coffee houses, festivals, open air markets, and street fairs from as far east as Spokane, north to Everett, south to Chehalis, and west to Port Angeles.
Uncle Phil is a very strong professional duo that can spice up or support your event and can easily adjust to fit your desired program or location.
